DJI Action Cam: A One-Year Review! A Travel YouTuber's Real Review (Video Included)

비오는날-액션캠으로-촬영중

I ran a YouTube channel while traveling the world with my teenage son for seven months. I filmed with a DJI action camera in various environments and, after using it myself, honestly summarized the pros and cons. I hope this will be helpful to those considering purchasing a DJI action camera.

Advantages of DJI Action Cameras

1. More beautiful and vivid colors (supports 10-bit D-log M)

DJI action cameras support D-log M shooting mode. This shooting mode is commonly used when shooting movies or dramas. A shooting technique that involves shooting in a color-blind state and applying a LUT to create a more vivid color desired by the photographer.no see.

However, since this mode is also supported by DJI action cameras, you can easily extract the color you want.

After shooting in D-log mode, color correction methods and required LUTs are provided free of charge on the DJI website. You can find detailed instructions in my previous post below.

2. Wide angle + minimal shaking

Action cameras naturally boast wide field of view. Furthermore, because they're often used in a variety of environments and situations involving rapid movement, they come standard with anti-shake functionality.

DJI action cameras have four levels of shake prevention: RockSteady, RockSteady+, HorizonBalancing, and HorizonSteady. You can adjust the anti-shake function to suit your situation because you can.

3. Waterproof and dustproof performance (up to 18m)

Waterproofing and dustproofing are among the most important features of an action camera, especially when traveling, as you'll often find yourself in water at any time.

so The lifespan of a camera depends on how well it is waterproof and dustproof. It can be done.

You need to be ready to go underwater or into a dust hole at any time, because if you put on a waterproof housing every time you do, you'll miss important moments.

The content below is based on footage taken underwater during my trip. Jumping into the water without a housing is perfectly acceptable.

4. Front dual screen 👉 Selfie camera is a must

The action cam is equipped with two monitors so you can check how the footage is being filmed. So, you can always check how you're being filmed while shooting with the camera.

This is an essential feature when taking selfies. However, there is a downside to this feature, as the left and right lengths are cut off compared to the original footage, so you have to take that into account when taking the photo.

Disadvantages of DJI Action Cameras

1. Built-in microphone quality

Action cameras are typically held by the cameraman, giving them a comparative advantage in audio capture. However, concerns remain about how much sound they can capture and whether they require the purchase of a separate microphone.

I felt that it performed better than expected, but still If there is a lot of ambient noise or you move a little further away, you will experience a rapid decrease in sound quality.I was able to do it.

🎬 Example of content that captures sound only through the DJI Action 4's built-in microphone.

2. Dark screen

You can see that the camera is shooting a little dark. I checked that the later content was shooting dark and did some color correction, but usually If you only shoot with a DJI action camera, the image will be a bit dark. Post-processing is required.do.

Before you start shooting, you can shoot with a slightly higher exposure, but it is recommended to adjust the brightness in post-production as this may result in the screen appearing white in bright places.

3. Slow app connection response

You can monitor your footage with a smartphone app while filming with a DJI action camera. However, the app connection and response times can be quite long, making it somewhat inconvenient and often discouraged.

However, when filming in a location where long-term monitoring is required, such as an interview, or where monitoring is impossible, app connection is absolutely necessary.

If you have time before shooting, After connecting the app, you can adjust the exact angle and color temperature through the monitor. You can do it.

Tistory's Year-End Report: 34 Questions for 2024, Blogging & Life

쫄보들의-세계여행기

I found it while looking for writing material Tistory's '34 Questions'’ We're releasing the list. My 2024Looking back ‘'If you were to compliment me this year?'’ Let me answer the question. You too 34 questionsThrough Writing for myselfStart with Year-end settlementTry it!

If you were to compliment me this year?

There were a variety of topics, but perhaps it's because I'm so strongly feeling that this year has been one where I've had nothing to grasp, nothing to see, and nothing to accomplish? The topic that caught my eye the most was, "How would you compliment yourself this year?".

To better compliment myself, I would first look back and ask myself, 'What did I do this year?'.

January-February

I am The job of a PD who produces programsI lived like that. I think I worked in everything from educational programs to variety shows and audition programs. That was until the company took a huge hit.

When the company took a hit and I left, I worked part-time until early this year, making documentaries. Normally, I'd only take on one, but I was busy taking on two at once. Meeting so many new people, interviewing them, and traveling all over the place, I felt like I hadn't felt this happy in a long time.

I ended up earning quite a bit of money that I had been spending for a while.

March-April

I've been talking about this trip with my family for years, so I've started clearing out everything in my house to prepare for it. Why are there so many things in every nook and cranny of the house?, There were many things to throw away and many things to sell.

Until the beginning of this year, my feelings hadn't changed much, but as I started organizing my belongings one by one, I began to feel like I was finally leaving, and at times, I felt anxious and worried. However, even greater than those feelings was excitement.

It was a time to bond more closely with my family, and I was also able to talk more with my wife about things I hadn't been able to talk about before.

May-December

We departed from Incheon International Airport on May 9th. Over the course of seven months until December, I traveled to a total of six countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Hawaii, San Francisco, Seattle, etc.) and visited 18 cities.Did.

During those seven months, I fought a lot, almost had to return home after a long hiatus, lost my bag containing my camera gear, got locked out of my room with my keys, and even nearly fainted from a palm-sized cockroach.

But, despite all that, I'm back in Korea now. It's for my son, who chose to take the GED exam for his travels. I knew studying while traveling wouldn't be easy, but seeing it from up close, I realized it was much harder than I expected.

It's not easy to graduate in just 10 months from a degree that other friends study for three years. We've sold our house and are currently living with my mother-in-law, but we plan to move abroad again once my son finishes his exams.

A market open only on weekends in front of Waikiki Beach, Hawaii is a place where every day is a festival.

So what are you going to praise?

My family is a bunch of cowards.

  • Coward 1 (Dad)
    • I have a fear of English, so I'm extremely reluctant to talk to blonde-haired foreigners. This is a fatal flaw when traveling the world.

  • Coward 2 (Mom)
    • I have a fear of insects and heights. I nearly fainted after seeing a palm-sized cockroach in my Malaysian hotel, and I've nearly fainted several times while climbing the 272 steps of the Batu Caves.

  • Coward 3 (son)
    • They are so scared of flies and even the smallest bugs that they can't touch them. They are sensitive to sound, and even the slightest loud noise can cause them to panic or become frightened. They also spit out food if it doesn't suit their taste.

On a world tour where you never know what's going to happen, the fears of the cowards grow. Despite this, they traveled for seven months without any major issues and remained healthy. I believe this was largely due to Coward 1's role in keeping them safe and sound. Kudos!
