Tistory's Year-End Report: 34 Questions for 2024, Blogging & Life

I found it while looking for writing material Tistory's '34 Questions'’ We're releasing the list. My 2024Looking back ‘'If you were to compliment me this year?'’ Let me answer the question. You too 34 questionsThrough Writing for myselfStart with Year-end settlementTry it!

If you were to compliment me this year?

There were a variety of topics, but perhaps it's because I'm so strongly feeling that this year has been one where I've had nothing to grasp, nothing to see, and nothing to accomplish? The topic that caught my eye the most was, "How would you compliment yourself this year?".

To better compliment myself, I would first look back and ask myself, 'What did I do this year?'.

January-February

I am The job of a PD who produces programsI lived like that. I think I worked in everything from educational programs to variety shows and audition programs. That was until the company took a huge hit.

When the company took a hit and I left, I worked part-time until early this year, making documentaries. Normally, I'd only take on one, but I was busy taking on two at once. Meeting so many new people, interviewing them, and traveling all over the place, I felt like I hadn't felt this happy in a long time.

I ended up earning quite a bit of money that I had been spending for a while.

March-April

I've been talking about this trip with my family for years, so I've started clearing out everything in my house to prepare for it. Why are there so many things in every nook and cranny of the house?, There were many things to throw away and many things to sell.

Until the beginning of this year, my feelings hadn't changed much, but as I started organizing my belongings one by one, I began to feel like I was finally leaving, and at times, I felt anxious and worried. However, even greater than those feelings was excitement.

It was a time to bond more closely with my family, and I was also able to talk more with my wife about things I hadn't been able to talk about before.

My house being packed (it's not my house anymore)

May-December

We departed from Incheon International Airport on May 9th. Over the course of seven months until December, I traveled to a total of six countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Hawaii, San Francisco, Seattle, etc.) and visited 18 cities.Did.

During those seven months, I fought a lot, almost had to return home after a long hiatus, lost my bag containing my camera gear, got locked out of my room with my keys, and even nearly fainted from a palm-sized cockroach.

But, despite all that, I'm back in Korea now. It's for my son, who chose to take the GED exam for his travels. I knew studying while traveling wouldn't be easy, but seeing it from up close, I realized it was much harder than I expected.

It's not easy to graduate in just 10 months from a degree that other friends study for three years. We've sold our house and are currently living with my mother-in-law, but we plan to move abroad again once my son finishes his exams.

A market open only on weekends in front of Waikiki Beach, Hawaii is a place where every day is a festival.

So what are you going to praise?

My family is a bunch of cowards.

  • Coward 1 (Dad)
    • I have a fear of English, so I'm extremely reluctant to talk to blonde-haired foreigners. This is a fatal flaw when traveling the world.

  • Coward 2 (Mom)
    • I have a fear of insects and heights. I nearly fainted after seeing a palm-sized cockroach in my Malaysian hotel, and I've nearly fainted several times while climbing the 272 steps of the Batu Caves.

  • Coward 3 (son)
    • They are so scared of flies and even the smallest bugs that they can't touch them. They are sensitive to sound, and even the slightest loud noise can cause them to panic or become frightened. They also spit out food if it doesn't suit their taste.

On a world tour where you never know what's going to happen, the fears of the cowards grow. Despite this, they traveled for seven months without any major issues and remained healthy. I believe this was largely due to Coward 1's role in keeping them safe and sound. Kudos!

[Saving Family Travel Costs for 40-Somethings] How to Calculate Tips in the US in 10 Seconds Without Mistakes

The biggest concern when traveling to the US, Tipping culturecast 20 years of experienceI learned from him. 17-day family trip to Hawaii/USA I experienced it firsthand during No tip calculation mistakes How to do it in 10 secondsclass Budget-friendly dining tips to save moneyis now released.

How to Calculate Tips When Traveling in the US

I'm traveling the world with my teenage son. We decided to visit the United States and Hawaii, and the biggest concern was actually the financial aspect. Since I have to pay for every meal, I couldn't help but be concerned about tipping.

1. Restaurants in the US where tipping is required

If you've ever eaten at a restaurant in the United States, you probably know that tipping is a must. That's because tipping is the primary source of income for those providing service.

So if you don't tip,‘I think it means that you are very dissatisfied with your service.‘' is done.

Restaurants in Hawaii and the US where tipping is required Includes all restaurants that come to each table with a menu, take orders, and serve food.Yes. Usually, in these restaurants, you have to tip between 15% and 25%, and the choice is up to the customer.

A restaurant in a Portland hotel in the United States

The restaurant above is the breakfast restaurant of a hotel I stayed at in Portland, Oregon. In South Korea, tipping is not required when eating breakfast included in a hotel restaurant, but in the United States, it's different.

Although I was aware of American tipping culture, I had no idea that tipping was even required at hotel breakfast restaurants. This is likely to be a confusing prospect for Koreans traveling to the US for the first time.

In American restaurants, you can pay by card and choose to tip, but here, I didn't have to pay separately, so I finished eating. Most people leave a tip of about $5 in cash on the table. It was.

2. Restaurants where you don't have to tip

but, There are also tip-free restaurants in the US.Here it is. First of all, it is a fast food restaurant that you are all familiar with.

For example, most restaurants such as McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, and IN & OUT have customers come in and order, and when it is their turn, they have to take their own food and clean up after they finish eating.

I've often wondered if this difference in tipping might be one of the reasons Americans flock to fast-food restaurants so often. It seems clear that tips make up a significant portion of their economy.

In these cases, restaurants are free from tipping. You pay at the place where you pay. Tip BoxHowever, in my case, I have never received exceptionally good service or felt friendly at these fast food restaurants, so I have never tipped.

The photo above is a very famous restaurant in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is Marugame Udon. In this restaurant, customers have to stand in line to order, get their food, sit at a table, and even clean up after themselves.

A restaurant that is not only delicious but also reasonably priced so you don't have to spend money on tipping. That's why I ate at this restaurant once a day.

3. A reasonable way to calculate tips

When traveling in the United States, you can't always eat at restaurants where tipping isn't required.

Sometimes we need to have a meal or a drink at a nice restaurant or a pub with an American feel, and that's when we How can I tip appropriately without offending the other person?I start to think about it.

I heard some very sensible advice from my brother, who has lived in the US for 20 years and currently lives in San Francisco with his family, and it was so clear that I wanted to share it with other confused travelers to the US like me.

  • Choose one of 15%, 18%, or 25%

When paying by card, you're usually given a choice of one of the percentages listed above. Deciding which one to choose can be daunting, but the choice is surprisingly simple.

First, I tell them If you received satisfactory service or felt the service was very friendly, you can choose the 18% tip line. However, in all other cases, you can choose the 15% tip line without hesitation. You can do it.

  • (Food price + service charge / tax) 15%? Is this correct?

Koreans vaguely know that in the US, a tip is supposed to be around 10-15%.

However, it is a very sensitive issue for the giver to tip 15%, which is the price including service charge and tax, and to tip 15%, which is the price of the food.

And most restaurants only offer the 15%, 18%, and 25%, which naturally include service charge and tax.

For those who don't know much, they will choose 15% and 18% without any resistance and also don't know which one is the problem.

Food ordered at an American restaurant

However, according to my younger brother who has lived in the US for 20 years, ‘'Paying 15%, the price of the meal excluding service charge and tax, is the most reasonable, and there is no problem calculating and paying the tip that way.'’He says confidently.

In most cases, Users can also input their own tips without selecting the three preset tips%.. So, you can calculate the exact price of the food (15%) and add the service charge, tax, etc. to pay the tip.

It wasn't a problem at all, even though my brother and I continued to pay like that while traveling in the US.

Example) If $150 (food price) + $30 (service/tax), then $150 x 0.15 = $22.5 Add $150 (food price) + $30 (service/tax) + $22.5 (tip 15%) to pay $202.5You can do it.

Know the exact calculation method and give tips

You can choose one of the three preset tip options and give a comfortable tip. Perhaps you can even give more than 25% to receive the best service without resorting to the complicated calculations above.

However, the reason why I shared the calculation method above is It means that you should know and give tips even if you give too much.am.

I'm writing this because I don't know how much I should tip or what an appropriate tip level is, and I hope that people don't give tips without knowing that the restaurant has already calculated the tip with tax added to it.

[Travel YouTuber] Samsung T7 Shield 2TB: Durability Review after One Month of Use (feat. USB 3.2)

A visit to and review of the interesting cafe Mail Room at Sindang Station on Lines 2 and 6.

Shindangdong is famous for its tteokbokki alley. However, I recently visited a cafe in Shindangdong that has become as famous as tteokbokki. I think the MZ generation will find it interesting. Introducing the very popular Mail Room cafe with a variety of props and items.I will do it for you.

Understanding Sindang Station on Lines 2 and 6

Shindang Station, which I visited after a long time, is filled with unique streets and fascinating things. If you enjoy visiting new places, there's plenty to enjoy.

  • First, there are many things to see offer

‘Many people probably remember Shindangdong as 'Tteokbokki Alley'. However, this place is also famous for Hwanghak Furniture Street. There are many stores that handle furniture, so it's fun to look at the furniture. It's a street with .

Also located near Hwanghak Furniture Street is the Hwanghak-dong Flea Market. Its name comes from the fact that the market travels like a flea, collecting rare items from every corner of the country. The market is filled with items you'd only find in country homes of the past.

  • Second, the Central Traditional Market, full of food

Where there is plenty to see, there is always a wide variety of food to eat, and the center of this is the Jungang Traditional Market.

Seoul Central Market, once considered one of Korea's three largest markets since the Korean War, was a bustling marketplace, hosting a significant amount of transactions and consumption. Today, along with nearby Dongmyo, it remains a beloved destination, offering a diverse range of food and attractions.

  • Lastly, there are plenty of special cafes and restaurants.

This is where Seoul's subway lines 6 and 2 intersect, and there are many markets around it. It is also famous for Tteokbokki Street and Hwanghak Furniture Street, so it is generally an area with a lot of floating population.

Therefore, it is characteristic that many special restaurants and cafes are emerging to capture the floating population.

Mail Room, a special cafe in Sindang Station

On the way out of Shindangdong Central Market, there was a cafe that caught my eye. It was Mail RoomIt was a SNS hot place cafe with a special concept called .

So, I went in to find out why this place is loved by MZ people.

The exterior of the strange mail room is not sure if it is a cafe or not.

Once you step inside the store, you will finally realize that it is a cafe.

But even the menu doesn't tell you what drinks are available. However, if you enter through the secret door on the right, you'll get the impression that this is a cafe that leads to the second and third floors.

The second floor, with its antique furniture and antique wallpaper, evokes the atmosphere of a European home. It was already packed, even though it was almost lunchtime, so I went up to the third floor.

  • 3rd floor interior

There's an internal elevator, so you can easily get to the third floor. Upon arriving at the third floor, open the glass doors and enter the space shown below. Fortunately, there are still seats available on the third floor, so I decide to sit there.

The coffee order form is uniquely placed on the ceiling, giving it that distinctive look. While nothing special, the large window makes for a great place to leisurely enjoy your coffee while looking outside.

  • Order coffee

After taking our seats, we went down to the first floor and ordered coffee. There were several options, but my wife and I were both obsessed with Einspanner these days, so we both ordered that.

When you order, you'll be given a key and a buzzer. Once your drink is ready, the buzzer will sound, and you'll come downstairs, open the cabinet corresponding to your key number, and enjoy your drink.

The coffee tasted quite good. The thick cream on top of the coffee gently enveloped the sweet and bitter flavor. It was much thicker than the typical Einspanner cream, giving it a more luxurious feel.

I was very satisfied with the taste of the coffee, but if you visit here on a crowded day around lunchtime, you may have to go back and forth because you might not be able to get a seat on the second or third floor. Please keep this in mind.

Because there isn't as much space as you might think;;

Mail Room Overall Review

If you're looking for a cafe near Sindang Station, I recommend Mailroom, which offers delicious coffee and a great photo opportunity. It's a place that's sure to offer a special experience for first-time visitors.

If you're looking for a special date spot in Seoul, I recommend Sindang-dong. With so much to see and do, this neighborhood is sure to make your time there even more romantic and atmospheric.

Choosing which country to travel to by drawing lots

The first continent we decided to go to was Southeast Asia.am.

However, each of us had a different desire to visit a different country in Southeast Asia. Therefore, we had to decide on a single country to begin our journey. When we couldn't agree on a single country, we decided to use the method outlined in the Bible.

In the Book of Jonah, God cast lots to choose Jonah and make him food for fish. God spoke through the lottery. So, we decided to draw lots, each writing down the country we wanted to go to in Southeast Asia.

The country my dad wants to go to is MalaysiaIt is a country with low prices, where English is widely spoken, and with various well-equipped infrastructures, making it a good choice for a first travel destination.

I also wanted to visit Singapore because I could travel freely there without any special restrictions. It's also a country with beautiful nature.

The country my mom wants to go to is volley, our honeymoon destination. It's a place that holds special meaning for us, and I thought it would be meaningful for the three of us to revisit the places we visited as two.

And it's also home to my wife's maternal uncle, so it's a place with many advantages. Of course, the natural beauty is, needless to say, beautiful.

The country my son wants to go to is MacauIt seemed like the biggest reason was the recent broadcast of a Macau episode on TalkPawon25. He'd deny it, though. Macau seemed to have a particularly rich array of delicious food.

My son, who has developed a keen interest in food, was particularly captivated by Macau. Choosing Macau as his first destination was a good idea, as it allowed me to explore nearby Hong Kong and other nearby countries.

So, what will be our first world travel destination?

Indonesia volleyAll! Of course, I'm not sure anyone will believe this, but I've decided to believe that this is God's chosen destination for us. No matter what happens, that won't change...

The date for my world tour was approaching, but I was anxious because I hadn't chosen my first destination. The whole family feels much more at ease now that the first travel destination has been chosen. It's done.

At the next world travel meeting, we decided to divide up our roles. Dad would plan our Bali itinerary, Mom would check ticket prices, and Son would find local restaurants and food he wanted to try. We'll discuss this again at the next meeting.

In truth, these are stories and thoughts I've only dreamed of in my mind, so the more they unfold, the less real they become. Will we really be able to pack everything up and leave for Bali in April 2024?

On the one hand, I'm worried, but on the other hand, I'm excited. I hope there will be people who support our journey in the future. To continue traveling and making a living, I dream of gaining 1,000 YouTube subscribers and earning $10 a day from advertising on my blog within this year.

(It seems like a dream when I look at my score now…) But, I think it’s possible, and if I run every day, I will definitely achieve it someday and dream of living a life of continuous travel.

A new father's struggles with parenting his teenage son.

As a new father with a son in the 6th grade of elementary school, one day puberty came to my son, who taught me what it means to be the apple of my eye without hurting it.

My son must be confused by the hormonal changes he's experiencing for the first time in his life, but as a first-time father of a teenage son, I'm also at a loss as to what to do. So, I'm going to share my struggles as a new father on my blog.

A father and son like no other in the world

I have a son in sixth grade. We have a unique father-son relationship, a rare sight these days.

When I was young, my father worked in broadcasting, so he was very busy and it was very difficult for him to see his son. My son, who had a hard time seeing his father, always missed his father and time flew by whenever they were together. Even now, he likes playing games with his father the most.

And he is a son who is rarely seen these days, and his happiest moment is sleeping with his dad every night.

“Then one day, my son hit puberty.”

A sentimental and warm son

I've experienced puberty as a child, but being the father of a son going through puberty feels like a whole new world. My son, who was once so cute and adorable, suddenly has a beard growing under his nose, and he's become a tiny baby that I can hold in my arms. A young man with a deep voiceThis is how it feels.

Plus, I've been taking a break from work lately, and my son is on vacation, so we're stuck together most of the time. Whenever he catches me glimpsed, I can't help but yell at him.

The son who likes playing with his dad the best(?)

That's clearly me, and it's something I don't like. For example, wasting time on my phone while lying down after eating, or not being able to organize my belongings and leaving them lying around on the floor—objectively, those are things that are just me.

It's nothing serious, but every time I do, I feel a surge of anger and rage. I thought I'd been holding it together well, but lately, I've been having a hard time controlling my anger.

Every time I lose my temper like that, I end up regretting it. I tell myself, "Everyone's doing great. I shouldn't have said that..." I promise myself I'll never say something so rude again!

Did my father do that to me too?

When I think of my late father, it seems he always gave me appropriate discipline and love. I never felt any anger, resentment, or fear toward him.

Looking back on my childhood, I don't think he was particularly troublesome, but I remember him being quite rebellious during adolescence. I wonder if he could control his anger if he behaved like me?

It's hard to imagine, but I think I need to be as patient as possible with my son's remaining adolescence and treat him rationally.

Dad's promise

  • Never yell at your son or get angry.
  • Don't scold your son based on emotions.
  • Even if you don't understand, think from your son's perspective.

Going forward, I hope this writing will be a place for me to reflect on myself and think from the perspective of my adolescent son.
